Elvira Brouwer on bridal work with lilies

Elvira of Loose Florals moves in a world where flowers are not decoration, but an experience. With a keen eye for atmosphere and detail, she effortlessly translates every wish into a matching whole. In her work with lilies, she found exactly the element of strength and elegance she was looking for. “Lilies give instant body to your floral work,” she says. “They take a leading role automatically, without you having to force it.”

Her favorite is the Cali, a single-flowered lily that stands out for its color, soft delicate fragrance and generous blooms of up to five heads per stem. She also has a distinct fondness for double-flowered varieties, which add an extra layer of luxury and fullness to her work.

At Holland's largest bridal fair - One Fine Wedding Day - Elvira showed what happens when you really give lilies space. She created rich, elegant baroque-style arrangements executed in a powerful mono style. Pure, outspoken and full of glory.

Not a subtle supporting role, but a statement that managed to touch visitors. Because according to her, it is a shame that lilies are so little visible within the bridal world.
“If they are used at all, they are often so modified that you hardly recognize them. That's what I wanted to break through.”

Her message to peers is clear: dare to embrace the lily again.
“They give volume, impact and elegance with relatively few stems. They are dazzling and available in so many colors that there is always a perfect match.”

All she asks is a little patience.
“Give them time to come open. That's not a restriction, it's just a matter of smart planning.”

Elvira shows that the lily may not only come back, but in fact should never have disappeared.
