Who are you?
My name is Ruxandra Molin. I have a 'degree' in architecture, but have been a florist for seven years. In the past two years I decided to invest more in myself, so I completed a floristry course with Filomena Brisc. And in the fall of 2021, I won 2nd place at the Romanian Cup of Floristry. My company is called Coquette Designs and it stands for what I stand for: different, unique, coquette, elegant with a twist.
What is your passion?
The best part of my profession is "wedding design. I love meeting the brides and grooms, hearing their stories, their preferences and what they (don't) like, their passions etc. And then I try to incorporate that into my designs. I believe that flowers are a way to express emotions, and where better to do that than at a wedding!
I also recently discovered that I love the excitement of flower competitions and I try to participate in them as much as possible. This is a great way to practice techniques, to see how everyone visualizes a theme in a different way and therefore it is impossible not to grow.
What do you love about lilies?
As I also recently discovered through your contest, lilies are so versatile. I think many people still associate them with certain "events. But there are so many varieties that it's almost impossible not to find one you don't like.
What do you think is the most beautiful lily?
Personally, I like lilies with smaller flowers, but my favorites are those with double flowers because they are really special and unique. From the box I received from Bredefleur, the Oriental trumpet peach Lily ('Zelmira' in the Oriental Trumpet line) and the Longiflorum white lily ('Watch up' in the Longiflorum line) my favorites.
Tell us about these beautiful lily creation(s)?
The inspiration for my design was a Native American crown, or a "war bonnet. These have great spiritual and political importance, symbolizing courage and honor, and they are made of long feathers. I reinterpreted the crown by deconstructing the lilies and using each petal as a feather. I used different techniques, such as gluing and reconstructing the lilies and the different petals of the lilies.
This was truly an incredible opportunity and I am excited to see what the new year and this new collaboration brings!
